We are back from our day in Petra and wanted to let you know it was extraordinarily successful.

The logistics were perfect, but I want to specifically recommend our jordanian guide, who was outstanding professionally and personally beyond reasonable expectations.

All of us are back to our routines, and we all carry something of the trip with us still. For my brother, you gave him a tremendous gift. He is Catholic, but his wife is Jewish, and he always had tension around thinking about both of those traditions. Your stories helped him see the connection between the Jewish and Christian heritage in a way he never imagined; it was an enormous insight and a great grace for him. For my sister, she was able to take the risk of coming, be in a place steeped with significance and history , and she got time with her family as she never had. Dad? A dream fulfilled, and time with his children – as well as the chance to knit together all of the stories and beliefs that have been so important to him for so long.

He was tired at the end – but he wouldn’t have traded a minute of it. He saw what he wanted, he had time to linger and pray when he needed, and he did new things he never thought he’d do. (dancing with Nigerians? Eating Arabic food?!?)

Me? I had the extreme privilege and blessing to help my dad fulfill his one dream and bring some kind of closure on an extraordinary life. What daughter wouldn’t want to be able to do that for a parent?

I now listen with a sharp ear and an open heart to the news about the conflicts and the attempts at peace in your region. I pray for peace daily. I want all to flourish and thrive in this land that God has so close to heart, and for all there to live knowing they are God’s children.

Thank you once again for being such a dedicated, thorough and excellent tour guide during our recent trip to Israel. Having a learned historian like you as our guide really made the visit extra special, and allowed us to relax and enjoy the journey while simultaneously taking in the magnificent scenery and rich cultural history of your country. Visiting Israel was eye-opening to me in so many ways, and I thank you for helping me better understanding this country in just a short 3 days.

Lieber Arie,

wie du dir sicher denken kannst, sind wir alle gut nach hause gekommen, es war gestern sogar etwas sonnig hier, aber so 7-10°C.
Für uns alle war die Israel-Reise ein wunderschönes Erlebnis, was zum großen Teil durch deine mitreißenden Erklärungen und dein unendliches Wissen kam. Auch im Bus von Berlin nach Rostock-Warnemünde haben wir noch weiter von dir und der Reise geschwärmt. Mir selbst hat es sehr gefallen, daß du viele geschichtliche Daten erklärt hast und nocheinmal klar gesagt hast, dass die Religion/en als Weg später daraus entstand/en. Ich fand die Reise sehr gut organisiert, wir haben innnerhalb kurzer Zeit enorm viel gesehen und sind durch deine Erklärungen im Bus mit kurzen Besichtigungszeiten ausgekommen, weil man sich gut darauf einstimmen konnte. Leider konnten wir uns nicht alles merken, was du uns erzählt hast. Beim nächsten mal hängen wir dir ein Diktiergerät um und brennen eine CD mit deinen Erklärungen, damit wir es zu Hause immer wieder hören können :-) Bei unserem Bus wirkt die Israel-Reise noch nach und wir denken sehr gern an dich .Wahrscheinlich fahren wir im Juni nocheinmal nach Israel
Insbesondere für Josi und mich war es tief bewegend, viel über die jüdische Religion erklärt zu bekommen. Wir haben fast 3 Jahre in Boston/Brookline gewohnt, wo ja auch viele z.T. russische Juden leben, viele ihrer Schulfreunde aus der 1. und 2. Klasse sind Juden. Auch daher hat sie sich in Yad Vashem verloren...
Herzlichen Dank für die wunderschöne Reise, dein ganzes Wissen und deine Geduld mit uns allen. Wir sind sehr froh, daß du die letzten 6 Tage nicht im Büro vebracht hast!

Lieber Arie,

du hast uns letzte Woche sehr engagiert und gut organisiert durch Israel geführt – dafür nochmals recht herzlichen Dank!

Die Reise war für uns sehr beeindruckend und erlebnisreich. Sowohl die Historie der religiösen Orte, als auch die aktuellen Themen rund um Politik, Kultur, Architektur und um die fortdauernden Konflikte hast du uns sehr lebendig näher gebracht. Ich bin von dieser Reise mit viel mehr – nicht nur visuellen - Einblicken nach Hause gekommen, als dies bei anderen Reisen der Fall war und kann mich nun ein Stück weit besser in die Lage der in Israel lebenden Menschen versetzen.
