one of Judaism's Four Holy Cities (along with Jerusalem, Tiberias and Hebron) is in the northern region of Israel and is well known for being a center for Kabbalah- or Jewish Mysticism. Mentioned in the Jerusalem Talmud as one of the five elevated spots of Israel, fires were lit in Safed to announce the new moon and festivals during the Second Temple period showcasing its relevance to the spiritual and religious history of the Jewish faith.
Safed's charming old city with ancient synagogues and cobble-stoned alleyways is a lovely venue for touring. The appealing Artists' Colony in Safed is reknowned for its beauty and craft.
